What is the best healthy alternative?
Stevia is a small green herb, originally from South America, whose leaves are a thousand times sweeter than sugar. It contains no fructose or
calories, but unlike chemical "sweeteners", it is actually good for you! Aspartame and other chemical sweeteners have been proven to cause weight gain, bloating, depression, migraines, infertility and other serious conditions.
Stevia on the other hand has been used for centuries by native tribes in South America as a medicinal herb, as it regulates blood sugar levels and reduces cholesterol. It is a powerful antioxidant, cleans the digestive tract, and is also used to detoxify the body from alcohol and tobacco.
One teaspoon of pure stevia is equal to one cup of sugar, so use sparingly – You only need half a pinch (0.2 grams) to sweeten hot or cold drinks. Avoid stevia that has been mixed with other ingredients, or it can have a bitter aftertaste: choose pure stevia for best results.
I find the best results in baking come when I add 1 teaspoon of raw honey and the rest stevia to the baking – It maintains a very good balance of sweetness and taste. Stevia does not taste exactly like sugar - just like honey and maple syrup are sweet but have their own taste, so does Stevia.
Stevia is also a wonderful choice for your children – it allows them to feel like they’re not missing out on sweet treats, while being very health-giving.
I believe that we all seek out sweet foods: it's natural. Now you can have a sweet drink, dessert or treat - just use stevia instead. This one small change can help you to create a healthy future for you and your children.
Please let me know if you've tried stevia and what your experience was like! I'd love to hear from you!
